Published at the occasion of the eighty-fifth birthday of the famous English incunabulist (1880-1971), attached to the British Museum since 1904 as successor to Proctor. By his main work, the BM’s “Catalogue of books printed in the fifteenth century now in the British Museum”, and his other publishings Scholderer influenced the whole field of incunabula study very deeply. This volume, with Scholderer’s portrait, a complete list of his published writings from 1900 up to 1966 and a subject index contains fifty of S’s most outstanding essays on early bibliography, written in a lucid and entertaining style. Many illustrations. A nicely illustrated work; the 50 essays together provide a wonderful account of early printing in general. Edges jacket with some minor shelf-wear. Very good copy.
