The 1st part is devoted to the origins of French printing, the 2nd part to the �Imprimerie Nationale� and its beginnings in the 16th century, the next part covers the H�tel de Rohan (in 1809 Napoleon decided the National Printing Office to be housed there) and the 4th part contains 6 appendices dealing with the different italic and roman types used. Profusely illustrated (woodcuts, (coloured) photographic illustrations and many facsimile-pages). A magnificent work in the best French tradition and with an appropriate binding. Fine copy.
