The 1st part is devoted to the origins of French printing, the 2nd part to the “Imprimerie Nationale” and its beginnings in the 16th century, the next part covers the Hôtel de Rohan (in 1809 Napoleon decided the National Printing Office to be housed there) and the 4th part contains 6 appendices dealing with the different italic and roman types used. Profusely illustrated (woodcuts, (coloured) photographic illustrations and many facsimile-pages). A magnificent work in the best French tradition and with an appropriate binding. Fine copy.
