The tragic story of the great Tsunami of April 1, 1946, at 7:00 A.M. which struck the Hawaiian Islands without warning (one of 95 tsunamis in 175 years in Hawaii). In the hardest hit areas, the waves engulfed property more than half a mile inland, leaving 159 persons dead and millions of dollars worth of damage. It also describes other of these "killer waves" in the Hawaiin Islands and gives an account of the origin and operation of the Pacific Tsunami Warning System, which was established in the late 1940's. Min Lee interviewed tsunami survivors that are presented in this study. Several maps and many dramatic photographs of the damages and destructions. Ex Bibliotheca Büch met zijn aankoop-notitie "Kailua Koma Hawaii 28 VIII 1993". As new.
