A remarkable series of 3 well-illustrated and -documented works on the ships and exploits of the Confederate Navy, with insufficient resources, in its battle against a better-equipped and relentless opponent. The works supply information about some of the Confederacy's most ingenious and dangerous warships and torpedo boats (a.o. Sumter, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Chicora Albemarle and Stonewall) and their commanders (a.o. Buchanan, Semmes, Maffitt, Cooke and Brown) and accounts the battles and engagements fought by the Southern Navy. With many (old) illustrations, maps, portraits, ships profiles, appendices, notes and indices. This series of 3 (sold by us together) has later been followed by a 4th volume "Fire and Thunder".
