From: Oeuvres Complètes de Buffon, suivies de ses continuateurs Daubenton, Lacépède, Cuvier, Duméril, Poiret, Lesson et Geoffroy-St-Hilaire. Seule Édition complète. Avec figures coloriées. Mammifères. Planches. Tome II: Nos. 1 à 152. George Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707 - 1788) was the most important French naturalist of his days. His collaborator Louis Jean Marie Daubenton (1716 - 1800) wrote the explaining text to the superb plates that were designed by Meunier of the Cabinet d'Histoire Naturelle and lithographed by Burggraaff for Lejeune. Note: this plate has come from an incomplete/irreparable book as we do not cut books for plates. An original beautifully hand-coloured lithographed plate on special paper.
