4-to (21 x 30 cm). 2 Uniform volumes. Pp. 1-358; 359-696. Pictorial folding wrappers.
Sumptuous catalogue in 2 volumes of the 1985-exposition organised by a joint Belgian-Spanish committee to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Crédit Communal (the former Dexia Bank). The exposition centers on the period that Belgium and Spain were united. The first volume gives the broader background to the exposition; it contains 20 articles by different authors on the historical, religious and artistic aspects of this union during that period (a.o. on subjects of economy, geography, politics, religion, humanism, literature, science and technique, music &c) and is profusely illustrated. The 2nd volume is the actual catalogue of the exhibition, divided in 4 sections: the countries (25 objects), politics (40 objects), religion (94 objects); court life and daily life (37 objects). The pictorial objects are mainly paintings, but also drawings, sculpture and other works of art; they are all separately depicted (often full-page and b/w or in color). With an extensive bibliography. Bbibliographie abondante . Excellent copies.
