Sm-8vo (11,9 x 15,5 cm). Pp. 138, (4), (2 bl). Original wrappers.
First publication by Céline (apart from his doctoral thesis a year before), still under his own name Dr. Louis Destouches ( de Paris). Title page with stamp " Aangeboden door het Bureau tot Bevordering van het Kinine-gebruik Amsterdam, the Bureau that published "Chininum - Scriptione Collectae" - at that time there were still every year cases of malaria in the Dutch province of Noord-Holland, mainly in the region of Zaandam). In 1924 Céline had presented his doctoral thesis "La Vie et l'oeuvre d'Ignace Philippe Semmelweis" (Semmelweiss had discovered that Streptococcal bacteria were the cause of childbed fever). In 1925 he started working at the Hygienic Institute of the League of Nations at Geneva, but was actually paid for by the Rockefeller Foundation. For that organization he traveled a lot during that time (Europe, United States, Cuba) before establishing a private medical practice in Paris in 1928. Apart from a very small, repaired, tear ( 3 mm) in right margin of front cover an excellent copy of this fragile booklet. Very rare.
