A very popular work at its time. The fine steel engravings after original drawings by George Petrie (1789 -1806), William Henry Bartlett (1809 -1854) and Thomas Mann Baynes. With descriptions by George Newenham Wright (1790-1877). The Revd. Wright became connected to Fisher as an editor and text writer in 1832 (Hunnisett, Steel-engr. bk. illustr. in England, 1980, p. 172). The typographical title-page of this edition slightly different: Ireland Illustrated, From Original Drawings, by G. Petrie, W.H. Bartlett & T. M. Baynes. With descriptions by G.N. Wright. Index of engravings (and descriptions) at the front. With the engraved title of the original edition, dated 1829: Ireland Illustrated in a Series of Views, of Cities, Towns, Public Buildings, Streets, Docks, Churches, Antiquities, Abbeys, Towers, Castles, Seats of the Nobility, &c. &c. From Original Drawings by Geo. Petrie, Esqre. Engraved on Steel, under the direction of E. Goodall ... With historical and topographical descriptions by G.N. Wright, Esqre. The 40 plates outside of text each with 2 fine steel engravings (each 9,5 x 15,5 cm) with their tissue guards and captions. Engravings, and descriptions of a.o. Black Rock Castle, Round Tower at Swords, Giant's Causeway, Royal Exchange, Custom House and Nelson's Pillar at Dublin, Upper and Lower Lake of Killarney, Dunluce Castle &c. The first 40 pages are devoted to Dublin and its environs. Some plates with faint, paper-related, foxing spots, but mostly outside of the engravings, corners somewhat bumped, but otherwise in very good condition.
