A letter from Au Bon Marché is bound in, stating that the catalogue was printed at he time that the war was declared and that since then prices have risen considerably, with an average of ca 100 %.
Illustrated by Charles Joseph Watelet (1867- 1954), who was educated at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts at Brussels, where he was a student of Jean-Francois Portaels. He was further educated in Paris by Alfred Stevens - famous for his portraits of women. Watelet was active in Brussels where he was well-known as a genre- and portrait-painter, especially of elegant women from the upper-class. His charming full-page coloured plates in this booklet depict the different pre- and postmarital phases, from courting, betrothal, choosing the trousseau, mariage and baptism till walking the child. Furthermore illustrated with several text-illustrations in red and orange.
Nice binding, very well-kept copy of an interesting booklet, documenting an important every-day life event – even then ! - from the time of the First World War.
