Extensive general description (in Dutch) of Spain and Portugal with chapters on the geography, history, religion (including the inquisition), the Court, Nobility and Government, the Army, taxes, money, economy, measures and weights, trade with East- and West-India and the natural history of Spain. Separate chapters on Madrit (sic) and the Royal palaces, the 14provinces of Spain and Gibraltar. The last 127 pages are devoted to the same subjects relating to Portugal. With the large folding maps of the Iberian Peninsula (37 x33,5 cm), the Straits of Gibraltar (41,5 x 39 cm), and the large folding engravings of the Auto da Fé by the Inquisition, the town and mountain of Gibraltar, the Patriarchal Church of Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755 and the St. Pauls Church at Lisbon after that earthquake. Maps and engravings in fine condition, although with small unobtrusive tears at inner margin (as usual), but only one with (restored) tear affecting the picture. Traces of old paper label on on upper fleuron of back. At the end the index of 17 pages. Engraved allegorical frontispiece by J.C. Philips. Published in the series “Hedendaagsche Historie of Tegenwoordige Staat van alle Volkeren”, but not numbered. Complete copy.
