Title leaf with the large device of Philippe Pigouchet. Collation (complete): #8, 2#8, 3#8, d – I8, â8, ê8, î8, +8 (only the first leaves of each quire have a signature; the first 3 quires of 8 leaves have no signature – although sometimes the lower sides of several leaves have been trimmed a bit short, we think that the first leaves of these 3 quires never had signatures; of the quires g and â; the signatures are on the second leaf of those quires; otherwise, the quire signatures of this work are not erratic, as sometimes in copies printed on vellum). Black masterpiece morocco Riviere-binding; covers with blind-tooled fillets and decorative gilt-tooled wine leaves. Spine with 4 raised bands, gilt-lettered title and 4 decorative gilt-embossed leaves. All edges gilt. Modern vellum free endpapers.

New vellum flyleaves. Printed on vellum. Text 29 lines to a page, within historiated borders depicting Saints, allegorical figures and biblical- and daily life-scenes. (several of these repeated). With 17 three-quarter page (7,3 x 11,2 cm) miniatures and 35 smaller (2,2–3 x 3,8-4,5 cm) engraved miniatures. Initials and capitals supplied by hand in blue, red, gold and sometimes white; a great number of these 2-, 3- and 4-line coloured initials.. Line-fillers similarly supplied. Green cloth bookmark.
